The Dublin International Chamber Music Festival (DICMF), Ireland's longest-running chamber music festival, is set to open its 2024 season at Richmond Barracks on Tuesday, 4 June, from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. This event, featuring the JACK Quartet and clarinettist Carol McGonnell, promises to be a highlight of the summer for chamber music enthusiasts.
Founded in 1970 at Castletown House, DICMF has grown from humble beginnings into a prestigious platform for world-class musicians. The festival's mission is to present chamber music, often called "the music of friends," in intimate settings. This approach allows audiences to experience music as initially intended, away from formal concert halls.
The opening concert will showcase a world premiere of a new work by Ann Cleare, commissioned by DICMF with support from The Arts Council. Cleare, a recipient of the 2019 Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize, is known for her innovative compositions. Her new piece, inspired by the history of Richmond Barracks, will be performed by the acclaimed JACK Quartet and Carol McGonnell.
The programme also includes Ruth Crawford Seeger's String Quartet 1931, Kaija Saariaho's Duft for Solo Clarinet, and the Irish premiere of Juri Seo's Three Imaginary Chansons. Each piece reflects the festival's commitment to presenting a diverse range of contemporary chamber music.
DICMF is a non-profit organisation that relies on the support of sponsors and patrons to continue its work. The festival is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Department of Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht. This year's event is presented in partnership with the Dublin City Council Culture Company and Richmond Barracks.
Tickets for the concert start at €14. Visit the Dublin International Chamber Music Festival website for more details and to book your tickets.
