Richmond Barracks Summer Fair - Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2024 from 11 am to 5 pm
Enjoy a day filled with creativity, community and connection at our Harvest Fair.
Come together to support artists, producers and makers as we celebrate the season, inspired by the themes of eating, growing and making.
Our fairs are family friendly, with entertainment and creative activities for all ages. There will be stalls, workshops, walking tours, entertainment, food and drink and more to enjoy.
With free admission, you can bring your family, friends, and curiosity for a day of exploration and discovery. Dogs are welcome, too.
Our building is accessible, with safe parking for bikes and for buggies. We open at 11 am each day. Find directions here.

What you'll enjoy at the Harvest Fair:
CREATIVE WORKSHOPS:
Try something new like crafting or upcycling in our family-friendly Harvest workshops. If you enjoy them, come and take part in our year-round Culture Connects programme.
To take part in our workshops you must book a place on the day. You can do this at the reception desk 30 minutes before each workshop takes place. Places may be limited. Please note that children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout workshops.
Workshops include:
- Saturday 21 September - 11.30 to 12.30 - Introduction to Foraging
Join Tara from Wild Sióg for this introduction to foraging. Learn about some of the wild herbs and berries which are available to forage at the moment and find out how to extract their properties and preserve them for future use throughout the year. During the workshop Tara will demonstrate how to make a vitamin rich tonic for winter using foraged Rosehips which you can sample. You will also get a recipe booklet so you can try using foraged ingredients after the workshop yourself. Children are welcome to come to this workshop but must be accompanied by an adult.
- Saturday 21 September - 12.00 to 1 pm - Children's History Workshop: Harvest Knots
Join Dublin’s Historian-in-Residence for Children Dervilia Roche for a free, interactive workshop for children aged 9 - 12. Explore the history and folklore of harvest traditions, and make your own traditional harvest knot.
- Saturday 21 September - 1 pm to 2 pm - Flower Art Workshop
Join visual artist Niki Collier to make pressed and hammered flower art. Use flax, nettles and flowers from the Richmond Barracks garden to make your own design. Be creative with nature - seeds, stems, flowers, leaves and roots.
- Saturday 21 September - 2 pm to 3 pm - Make an autumnal collage with upcycled fabric
Get creative with upcycled fabric. Join Oileán from Change Clothes to create your own autumn themed decorative textile collage. This workshop is family friendly and suitable for age 5 and up.
- Saturday 21 September - 3 pm to 4.30 pm - Make a willow birdfeeder
Help our native birds during the hungry winter months. Join eco gardener-in-residence Polly Rowley-Sams to make your own bird feeder from willow. This workshop is for adults and children aged 7 and up.
- Saturday 21 September - 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm - FoodCloud Cookie Challenge
Join Chef Janice from FoodCloud Kitchen for the Cookie Challenge. Can you customise your own delicious cookie without using chocolate chips? Starting with basic cookie dough you must choose what to add to your cookie to make it extra special. The choice is yours! Everyone taking part will go home with their own cookie, unless you can't resist eating it straight away!
- Sunday 22 September - 11.30 to 12.30 - Make a botanical print
Join horticulturalist and flower grower Sheelagh Wherity of The Flower Gardener to make your own botanical prints. This workshop is suitable for all ages.
- Sunday 22 September - 12.30 to 1.30 pm - Try out ukulele workshop
Come and strum! Originating in Hawaii in the late 1800s the ukulele is a great starter instrument for anyone who wants to try their hand at something new. Join musician and music teacher Shane McGrath for this fun, family friendly workshop open to everyone. You don't need any musical experience, just come and join in. Ukuleles will be provided.
- Sunday 22 September - 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm - Samhain Stamping
Join artist Paula Garcia Ibanez to create your own Samhain themed stamps and print your own designs.
- Sunday 22 September - 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm - Make a Harvest mask
Join artist Shannon Jade Wilson to create animal themed harvest masks from natural materials. This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 6 plus.
- Sunday 22 September - 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm - FoodCloud Cookie Challenge

Browse over 30 stalls showcasing a wide range of producers, makers and creators. Pick up delicious treats, sustainable goods and one-of-a-kind handcrafted gifts, supporting small businesses, artists and enterprises.

GUIDED TOURS
Join one of three guided walking tours. Choose from exploring local biodiversity, the area’s historical connections to 1916, or Goldenbridge, Ireland’s first garden cemetery. Tours are offered for free during the Fair with options across both days.

ENTERTAINMENT IN OUR GARDEN
Our beautiful garden is in its Autumn colours. Enjoy music, song and dance performances. Explore the garden with our Biodiversity Worksheet for kids. See what’s growing in our community garden plots and find out how to get involved.
Entertainment includes:
- Saturday at 11.15 - The Teddy Bears' Picnic with Inchicore Library - Bring your teddy bear to join a picnic. There will be stories and songs and lots of fun.
- Saturday at 12.30 - Loboko Na Mbonda - Congo dancing
- Saturday at 13.30 - Uileann piping with Martin Nolan
- Saturday at 14.15 - Dublin 10/20 Music Shed
- Sunday 22 September - 11.15 - Mad Dog: stories, songs and movement
Join MAD DOG for this interactive family friendly musical storytelling session. MAD DOG will perform from his collection of original songs 'Furs and Feathers', a selection of songs about where food and friendship collide. These are story songs based on local urban myths and lore and lots of animal characters. Expect songs, stories, movement and lots of fun!

FOOD AND DRINK
FoodCloud Kitchen will be serving a daily menu created using seasonal ingredients sourced from Irish suppliers. You can also enjoy delicious food and hot drink options from our food trucks and vendors in the garden:
INCHICORE LIBRARY
The Library will be open each day. Along with their usual services, they will have special events for young people, including their popular Teddy Bears' Picnic.
