In the heart of Dublin, a unique initiative is weaving threads of sustainability into the fabric of the community. Change Clothes Crumlin, a pioneering clothing reuse project, is inviting locals and visitors alike to embark on a creative journey every last Saturday of the month at Richmond Barracks. Their mission? To transform old clothes into new treasures, one stitch at a time.
A Year of Upcycling Adventures
Each Sustainable Saturday is a window into the world of upcycling, offering a different theme to spark your creativity:
January's fabric block printing workshop was such a hit that it was rescheduled for Saturday, 10 February, giving more participants the chance to stamp their mark on forgotten fabrics.
February brought spring to life with the crafting of hair bows and headbands, turning scraps into fashion statements.
March's workshop turned ordinary glass jars into decorative storage solutions, blending functionality with beauty.
April promises a no-sew adventure, as attendees will create and decorate cushions for their homes using t-shirts and jumpers that have fallen out of favour.

More Than Just Crafting
Sustainable Saturdays go beyond the craft table. They are a testament to the power of community, creativity, and environmental responsibility. By encouraging the upcycling of textiles, these workshops aim to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, one garment at a time.
For the Whole Family
These family-friendly workshops welcome participants of all ages, though an adult should accompany children. It's a fantastic opportunity for parents and kids to bond over a shared activity that teaches the value of sustainability in a fun and engaging way.
The Mission of Change Clothes Crumlin
Founded in 2022, Change Clothes Crumlin (CCC) has set its sights on tackling local clothing waste and turning it into a global solution. Operating out of the Crumlin area, CCC has quickly become a hub for those interested in clothes swapping, borrowing, upcycling, mending, and more. Their events are open to everyone, emphasising that second-hand can be not only fun and affordable but also a socially enriching experience.
CCC offers a range of services aimed at giving clothes a second life, from a 'book-in' clothing exchange service and an affordable occasion-wear rental service to monthly €2 're-sales' and redistributing surplus stock to those in need. They also host upcycling and repair workshops for clothes that need a little TLC and find creative ways to repurpose fabrics destined for landfills.
