Dublin City Council Culture Company is committed to providing accessible experiences for all visitors to Richmond Barracks.

Entering the building

Visitors can enter Richmond Barracks through the front door, which is the main entrance. 

(Richmond Barracks is located off Bulfin Road, corner of Emmet Road (R810), behind St. Michael’s Church. It faces St. Michael’s Estate green space.)

Wheelchair and mobility access

Richmond Barracks has Part M access. All public areas are on ground level and all facilities (including the garden) are wheelchair and buggy accessible.

Wheelchair to borrow

One wheelchair is available for visitors to use free of charge.

Outdoor walking tours

The Richmond Barracks to Kilmainham Walking Tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. The tour begins at Richmond Barracks and ends at Inchicore Road, opposite Kilmainham Gaol. The tour will follow pathways throughout, and cross roads using pedestrian crossings where possible.  

The Goldenbridge Cemetery tour begins and ends outside the main gates to the Cemetery.  Please note, the tour takes place on uneven terrain and grassy paths and we ask all visitors to wear suitable footwear and please follow the guides instructions and directions at all times. 

Parking

There are two disabled parking bays outside the entrance to Richmond Barracks.

Toilets

There is an accessible bathroom available for visitors with impaired mobility. 

Assistance dogs

Guide and assistance dogs are welcome at Richmond Barracks, and on walking tours.

Sensory kits

Sensory kits are available for visitors to use free of charge.

Visiting safely

We will continue to operate with health and safety measures in place to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff.

Visitors can be assured that all recommended public health and safety guidelines are being adhered to and that staff members have completed essential hygiene and safety training.

Statement of commitment

Dublin City Council Culture Company is committed to ensuring that this website  is accessible and achieving AA standard, under the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

As of 14 January 2022, at the time of going live, www.richmondbarracks.ie was fully compliant with the  WCAG 2.1 guidelines using the online Web Accessibility Evaluation tool (WAVE).

This reported 0 accessibility errors, 0 contrast ratio errors and reported positive use of Features, Structural Elements and ARIA (alternative texts, semantic html elements, clean structural coding, appropriate use of headings and labels).

We will conduct an independent audit in 2024 to further ensure the accessibility of the site.

Note: While the website design and structure is fully compliant, where content has been added, or will be added in the future, it's possible that some exceptions may occur - such as video content embedded from YouTube which may not have captions, or PDF downloads. Where possible, we will try to always ensure compliance with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.
